We recently received some suggestions from a member of the Google My Business team that should help any hotel improve it’s visibility on Google.com. Here are the suggestions:

  1. Regular Updates: Taking about 15 minute everyday to update your Google+ page is the easiest and the most effective way to ensure Google indexes more of your content faster. It would not only get you an edge over the similar Google+ pages, but would also enhance the chances of your page being discovered by the prospects. Another point to consider here is to share the content that you publish on your other social channels to your Google+ page.
  2. Get Your “Story” Right: Also found under the About menu is your page’s “story” – a tagline and an introduction to your business – which becomes your meta description when your page shows up in search results. Crafting an effective one that informs your prospects clearly of what they could expect of your service/ product would definitely entice more clickthroughs.
  3. Narrow Down the Category: When you categorize your page more specifically, not only would it make it easier for your customers to find you on the network, but would also steer you clear of a possible broader competition from the pages of similar nature. Here is an article sharing the steps and more information on Business Categories.
  4. Don’t Skimp on the Visuals- Add more Photos and Videos: A visual appeal works better and more accurately than plain text. It gives your targeted audience a chance to associate themselves with the service provider- you, better and also proves to be more interactive than a plain text. Unlike other social channels (besides Pinterest), Google+ supports animated GIFs that stand out among static images or videos that need to be clicked to play, giving you additional opportunity to grab a prospect’s attention.
  5. Optimize the First 45-50 Characters of Your Posts: The first 45-50 characters of your Google+ post become that post’s page title in Google’s search results, so craft that first line as if you’re writing a blog post title, and include a keyword you’re trying to rank for.
  6. Claim Your Page’s Custom URL: Custom URL is an effective tool to brand your Google+ page further. If you have your page set up and you’ve got more than 10 followers, a profile photo and your page is older than 30 days, you can claim a custom URL that matches your brand, making your page easier to share and easier to discover. Here is a support article detailing Custom URLs for Your Google+ further.
  7. Bulk-up Your Page’s ‘Link’ Section: Every Google+ page gives you the opportunity to add links that are important to your business in the ‘Links’ section under the About menu. Along with your website, include your blog, social profiles, and any page you want to drive traffic to and from.
  8. Link Your Website to Your Google+ Page: Linking your Google+ page to your website would not only create an inbound link from Google+, but would also allow your Google+ page to appear towards the right side of search results. Here is an article detailing the concept further: Link Your Google+ Page to Your Website.
  9. Have Your Blog Authors Sign-up for Google+ Authorship: If you have multiple bloggers contributing to your blog, it would be a good idea to request them to sign-up for Google Authorship.
  10. Invite More Reviews: Customers and businesses both benefit when a business is reviewed on Google. Customers can make informed decisions based on information from people they trust. Businesses can strengthen their relationship with customers by directly engaging with reviewers on Google by replying to their opinions which would not only address the review writer, but also the prospects at large. You can learn more about the concept here: Get Reviews on Google.
